The Mayans did not say that the world was coming to an end on 12/21/12, they said that one cycle was coming to a culmination & another beginning.
Very different things, and how is one to determine the nature of these cycle? Earthly, Physical, meta-physical, disaster-ical, fuckery??
We owe the myth to pop culture, and mainly Terrance McKenna's Time Wave Theory, which he adjusted conveniently to match the Mayan date. It probably helped the theories credibility, right up to 12/22/12.
What if after the cyclical turn of the Stone Age, Industrial Age, disco age,Technilogical age, et al., we are on the verge of the beginning of a Spiritual age? Or more likely, a cycle of return to the Mystical age.
Def, Mystical:Not spiritual in a new agey sorta way, nor in a Christianity way, ferchrissakes! As in, a how do you explain the pyramids kinda way??
a : having a spiritual meaning or reality that is neither apparent to the senses nor obvious to the intelligence.
b : involving or having the nature of an individual's direct subjective communion with (a) God or ultimate reality.
*I added the (a). JH
A Stonehenge, Macchu Picchu, Naska Lines, Atlantis, Mayans, crop circles, ancient cave paintings sorta way.
There are so many unexplained things, and when you ask why or how 5 times deep, you will discover that we just shrug & go "dunno", "not quite sure", or "based on what we think we know today, we can't understand, explain or duplicate these phenomena/things...". And by we, I mean scientists, historians, & experts on the subject!!! They, quite literally, are limited by what we do not currently know or understand.
I don't think I'm over reacting here when I say WTF? Seriously dude. We just don't know what, why or how these things came to be? Unexplainable? Cant get consensus among leaders in the field? We just accept that, & ignore this when we get to the narrow book of scientific fact??? Simply exclude unexplainable things & accept that the world we live in is hard & finite? Ignore quantum physics, No weirdness, no other dimension, mind reading, time bending, gravity altering, no power of thought, consciousness, intuitive, energetic, woo woo possibilities...whaaaatsoever.... .?
Except, that the hard & finite solutions don't resolve to explain things. Yet, these things 'are'. They be. Now what?
So, I say what if - after our forced, or volunteered, or unevolved, or forgetful way we let this aspect of our humankind & world slide away - we are about to return to it?
The awareness of 'something else' has been evolving, ebbing & flowing, & gaining momentum that all grass roots campaigns do until they reach their tipping point. The clues are spread far & wide, broad across humanity. In every 'religion', philosophy, belief system, and geographic region. Every time & age, an inkling or a tidbit, all sourced from a tiny truth. Getting close but not right , the small tip of an unseen iceberg, each & every one. Perhaps that explains why there are so many theories , & we keep reinventing and adding to them. Creating new ones to satisfy the next inkling or discovery or possibility or misunderstanding, trying to scratch that itch of all the things we wonder... Who am i, why are we here, what is my purpose, how do I know, where are my socks? Trying to rationalize the as yet unexplainable, with a mind that only knows what it knows, thus far.
Graham Hancock, Terrance McKenna & brethren may find their work thrust to fairly high status and regard, from the far & weedy fringes they've been placed by mainstream society today. Wouldn't that be wonderful? At least they choose to hypothesize some plausible theories instead of simply ignore what they dont like or know.
We have scientificized the mysticality out of our society, particularly in the Western world. From which I speak. and it does not satisfy these questions. It is time that we transcend the confines of science, dictated thought and learning. There seems to be more, why would it not be considered, in the absence of an explanation? Really, where did the pyramids come from?
